A Coronavirus Update

Throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic our overriding priority has been to protect our residents, their families and our staff. This included the swift implementation of robust policies and procedures for the Home to keep everyone safe to ensure the risk of exposure to Coronavirus and developing COVID-19 disease was minimised. We are proud to say that our actions meant that NO RESIDENTS contracted COVID-19 in the Home.

COVID-19 testing for residents and staff has been regularly carried out and will continue to be done in accordance with the requirements of the Island’s Health Authority.

To enable our residents and families to stay connected we set up a ground floor ‘Watch and Wave Window’ so family members could see and talk to their loved ones and also successfully set up technology to enable video communications, telephone calls as well as emails and letters.

Our residents were also kept active and entertained by our in-house Activities Co-Ordinator and the staff who were very creative with arranging activities such as visiting socially distanced outdoor musicians to one to one drives out in the minibus and special in-house celebration events. We didn’t let the seriousness of lockdown spoil our fun or celebrating events as everyone worked so hard to try to keep everyday life as normal as possible.

Although restrictions are now easing in the Island and we are able to start opening our Home to family visitors again, we continue to remain cautious and vigilant because the virus remains a threat in the community and the health and wellbeing of our residents and staff remains our uppermost priority.

Even though the first wave of the pandemic has passed, we continue to closely monitor the latest Jersey Government advice and guidance from the Island’s Public Health Authority.

Les Hoûmets is now able to welcome new residents into the Home in a controlled and organised pre-arranged manner to minimise any risks to our existing residents and staff and we have set-up a safe visiting procedure to enable potential new residents and families to visit and view the Home.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families and friends of the Home for their support and kindness, their cooperation, patience and understanding during the past difficult few months we have had and of the challenging situation we remain in. Some restrictions remain in place to keep residents and staff safe and well. We truly appreciate how difficult these times have been and we understand how important contact with families is for everyone and it has been so lovely to welcome family members back into our home however, we must also recognise that those living and working in all care homes remain vulnerable to COVID-19.

Therefore, we have implemented a visitor protocol which includes specific guidance and standards on infection control measures, including the wearing of PPE and social distancing practices.  All details will be provided by the home to family members in advance of any visits taking place and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
